Spectral Analysis (GIS4035)

For this module, we did a spectral analysis on the Olympic Mountains, located in Washington State. After a few exercises looking at how to examine the different bands, we were tasked with creating three maps, identifying three features.

There were four steps used to accomplish this:
  1. Examine the histogram for shapes and patterns in the data.
  2. Visually examine the image as grayscale for light or dark shapes and patterns.
  3. Visually examine the image as multispectral, changing the band combinations to make certain features stand out.
  4. Use the Inquire Cursor to find the exact brightness value of a particular area.
Below are the three features found.

Feature 1. Deep water within the river channel.

Feature 2. The snowy mountaintops.

Feature 3. Variation in water depth.
